I want you to think about something you believe very strongly that doesn't actually hurt or help anyone, at all.
I'll start...
I think Christians can be very very stupid. More stupid than average people. I feel their beliefs are ridiculously out of touch with the fact that thousands of religions have existed and continue to exist, yet they're most all, if not all, wrong.
NOW! Having this opinion... what has it accomplished for me?
Maybe got me YouTube video views, but what have I actually benefitted from it?
...well... I've probably made people feel LESSER by sharing this view. Or even burned bridges with this view.
Point is, having the view that Christians are often stupid, is a stupid thing to express. Why? Because it doesn't really benefit me, or them. It just creates more **** in the world.
SO!
The question is, what STRONG OPINION could you cast away? What could you identify in yourself as NON-CONSTRUCTIVE to eliminate from your thinking?
This might sound silly but it would be my opinion on music. I don’t like country music, especially since my ex husband forced us to listen to only country and he’d mock me for my taste in rock music. I always thought that my boys shared the same feelings towards country music but the other day my youngest son told me that he’s actually always liked country music but he felt like he had to act like he hated it to please me. I felt so guilty and like the worst mother ever. Everyone is entitled to like whatever genre of music they enjoy and I need to just lay off the “I hate country music “ thing.
I don't have any strong opinions. I believe in live and let live. As long as no one is forcing their life choices onto others, it's not hurting myself or anyone else.
Ugh, I just typed out a whole response and it didn’t go through so I have to type it out again, lol.
What I said was, it’s not constructive to just call them stupid. I don’t care what someone believes. The reason some people might care is because religion leads some people (SOME, not all) to deny things like science and as a result, they might not believe in climate change, for example. Then they become against doing anything about it because they don’t believe it’s real, which is bad for society and the planet. Or it leads some people to kill people in the name of God like the Taliban does. These are just two examples of why someone may think religion is destructive. This does not represent all religious people, but this has proven to be the case among SOME of them.
